盘江石，产于贵州省境内的南北盘江及其支流河床中。盘江分为南北两条，均发源于云南马雄两江相拥穿行于贵州西南的崇山峻岭之间。南北盘江上下游地势海拔相差千余米，使江水形成很大的落差，同时中上游地段江面狭窄，山高谷深，江流十分湍急，为孕育盘江石营造了一个特殊的地质和地貌环境。

Panjiang-River Stones were foundin river-beds of the South and North Panjiang Rivers and their tributaries in Guizhou Province. Originating in the Maxiong area of Yunnan Province, bothrivers run through high mountains and steep valleys of southwestern Guizhou.The large elevation difference between the upper and lower reaches, a sharp water fall of more than one thousand meters was formed. The upper and middle streams of the rivers are narrowand are flanked by steep mountainsand deep valleys. The resulting rapid currents offer an ideal geological andterrain environment for the formation ofPanjiang-River Stones.

盘江石的石质绝大部分为石灰石，滚落江中的石头在碰撞解裂后，经过江水的不断溶蚀，表面形成各种形态的凹槽、孔穴，再经水冲沙磨，显得光洁温润，肌理丰富，形成了似山川景观、飞禽走兽、古堡碉楼、瓜果器皿等等奇特多姿的造型。

Panjiang-River Stones are mainly composed of limestones. After rolling into the river, these stones were collided and corroded in the water. Various grooves and holes are formed on the surface. After brushed and polished by water and sand, the stone surface became very smooth and sleek, forming various patterns resembling mountains and landscape, birds and beasts, castles and towers, fruits and vessels, etc.
