我們每個人身上都會顯現很多負面的東西,對此保持敏感、警醒,是我們一輩子都要去做的事。
We all have some negative traits. To be mindful and vigilant when they arise should be the core practice of our lives.

修行是修養仁愛、寬容、謙讓、與人為善等能給自他帶來安樂的精神品質。
Spiritual development is about the cultivation of mental qualities that bring happiness to others and oneself, such as compassion, tolerance, humility, and kindness.

留心觀察自己身、語、意的活動,觀察負面情緒是怎樣發展起來的,它的破壞性、欺騙性何在。
Being vigilant in our actions of body, speech, and mind, we observe how negative emotions develop and where their destructiveness and deception lie.

修行沒有什麽宏大的目標,只是不再自欺而已。
Spiritual development does not have any ambitious goals -- it aims merely for no more self-deception.

身體的行為主要由心決定,我們如果能夠調伏內心的負面情緒和思想,外在行為自然會隨之改變。
Generally speaking, our mind dictates our actions. If we are able to tame negative emotions and thoughts, our behaviors will be transformed accordingly.

任何友善的表示,不管多麽微小,哪怕是陌生人一個真誠的微笑,也會觸動我們的內心,讓我們感到欣喜。
Any friendly expression, even if as tiny as a sincere smile from a stranger, can touch our heart and bring us joy.

通常情況下,面對任何一件事物,我們的第一反應都是判斷。“對的”、“錯的”、“有利的”、“有害的”、“同意”、“不同意”,然後我們根據自己的判斷開始大聲、小聲、無聲地發表議論,像個喋喋不休的評論員。這種急於判斷的習慣和固有的觀念讓我們沒有辦法清楚認識事物。

Generally speaking, when we face an object, our first reaction is judging: "right," "wrong," "beneficial," "harmful," "agree," "not agree." Then we start to comment loudly, lightly, or silently like a rambling commentator based on our judgement. The habit to rush to such judgments and instintive mind states makes us fail to see things clearly.

樂觀、知足是現代人很需要去培養的心態,否則面對競爭的壓力、各種各樣的選擇和誘惑,生活很容易便會失去平衡並籠罩在焦慮的陰影中。調整心態從來不是件容易的事,但爲了自己和其他人的幸福,我們應該努力去做。
Optimism and contentment are necessary mindsets for modern people to cultivate. Otherwise, we easily lose balance in our lives and live in the shadow of anxiety, due to pressure from competition and to all kinds of choices and temptations. Adjusting states is never easy, but we should try hard to do it for the sake of our own happiness and the happiness of others.

很多情況下我們陷入苦難,更深刻的原因在於長期以來對精神世界的忽略。真正持久寧靜的快樂不是向外持求得到的。
The deeper cause of human suffering, in my view, lies in our longtime negligence of spiritual development. True and lasting happiness cannot be achieved through external things.

在追求幸福的過程中,我們要考慮到給其他人,不僅是現在生活在這個地球上的人,還包括以後要生活在這個地球上的人,以及與我們共享這個世界的動物,留出足夠的空間和可能性,去實現他們的幸福生活。
In pursuing it (happiness), we need to have consideration for others, including those who live today, those of future generations, and animals, too.
